Update 027: More New Pokemon Discoveries! (And Redesigns!)

Writer's picture: Team CarahTeam Carah

Today's update contains some more information on the two newest members to the Carahnian Pokedex - the spooky Medjolt and the jumpy Floabet!

Medjolt

Medjolt is a newly discovered Pokemon from the dark alleys of many Carahnian cities, and is a Ghost/Electric type. This Pokemon, much like Voltad, likes to infest the electrical circuits of advanced cities in Carah, and play tricks on people. Despite their mischievous nature, they are incredibly lovable, and enjoy physical contact with others. They often end up shocking people upon doing so, but they don't mean to cause any harm. Their eyes are also incredibly powerful, and can see through other Ghost Pokemon. They can even shoot electricity out of their eyes.

Floabet

Floabet is a newly discovered Pokemon from the daycares and breeding centers of Carah, and is an Astral/Flying type. Floabet always want to be around people, and are often seen as omens of good luck. Many breeders and daycare members keep a Floabet with them, as in ancient times, they would be worshipped as deities of fertility and good luck. Their flying abilities are still building at this stage, so they prefer to float with the wind and flap their wings to practice.

NEW POKEMON REDESIGNS

The following few Pokemon are the next set of retconned designs. These were primarily fixes to rendering and posing, with one being a complete design overhaul. Venalynx needed some recoloring, Nilodile needed some reshading, and Cypyrus was completely changed as a design.

Venalynx

I wanted to fix its coloration because it was much too dark, and didn't fit the source material as accurately as it could have. Moreover, I was able to fix the canvas size so it better fit the page, and made the overall design easier to read. I also fixed the shiny variant's colors to fit better.

Nilodile

I wanted to fix the shading of Nilodile because it was very busy, and made the overall design look significantly more confused. The shadows were mixed in with the highlights, so it was difficult to tell what was what. The shadows were also too dark at times, and detracted from the overall Pokemon's aura. The darkness also reduced the crispness of the design, so reshading it with a Fade Pen helped me get a level of crispness and saturation that the original design lost to a significant degree. I also changed the shiny to be a little more vibrant.

Cypyrus

Cypyrus needed a complete design overhaul, as it was too awkward of a design with too much deviation from my source material. It's design was confused, and the general idea didn't flow well. The rendering was also sub par at best, so I revamped the shading to make it look more like an official Pokemon design. The facial expression was also a poor transition from its first stage, Poallen, so I changed that to fit the transition and the 100% female gender ratio better.

I'm overall happier with these designs, as they read better and genuinely look like somewhat real Pokemon. I hope that you remain excited for the next few updates, as we're approaching the end of the Pokedex. Stay tuned for more!
